November Activities

Hi Folks,
Well it looks like Mother Nature has taken care of summer rather quickly and we are well on our way into winter. Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 have spent a great deal of time developing their volleyball skills. Many students have chosen to put them to use by participating in lunch hour intramurals. I have also been amazed by the response for students staying for after school volleyball as virtually everytime we do this we have about 25 kids staying. With 4 sessions left I hope this continues. Our last volleyball session will be on the 24th of this month and I will begin with after school basketball in the new year.
Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 also participated in a archery clinic put on by the archery association. I love watching students participate in activties such as these because many students gain a huge amount of self confidence by attempting an activity such as this that they may not otherwise had. Lifetime activities such as these are great opportunities for students to get hooked and pursue this activity throughout their school years and beyond.
Should you have any questions or concerns please give me a call at 864-2868. Stay warm and stay active.

October Activities

Hi Folks,
One month into the school year and it is already getting busy. Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 have been training hard over the lunch hours for the provincial cross country championships to be held in Winnipeg on October 16th. Students must have completed 7 out of a possible 10 training sessions in order to participate.
We are currently in the middle of our volleyball unit with students in grades 4, 5, and 6 and will be hosting a tournament for students in grades 5 and 6 from St. Eustache and SFX on Wednesday, October 22nd. This tournament will take on the same format as mini volleyball.
Lunch hour intramurals for students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will begin as soon as I am finished cross-country running. Any students from these grades who are interested can sign up the week of October 21st. Intramurals will begin with volleyball on days 1, 3, and 5 from 12:10 to 12:40.
After school activities will begin on Wednesday, October 15th with 10 volleyball sessions taking place over the months of October and November on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45. A reminder to students and parents that students will need a note each and every time they stay. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their volleyball skills.
Should you have any questions about the upcoming programs do not hesitate to call me at the school at 864-2868.

Welcome Back

I hope everyone had a peaceful and relaxing summer break. Both July and August flew by and we are now back for another school year. I am looking forward to teaching my students from last year and also getting to know the many new faces around. I will be starting extracurricular activities the week of September 15th for both students in SFX and St. Eustache.
Last year a number of students from both schools ran in the provincial cross country championships in mid October. I will be training students again for this upcoming race. All training sessions will take place at 11:45 on the days I am at their respective schools. Students will need to run at least 9 times to qualify to run at Harbour View as this will be run on a school day during class time. Those who do not run the minimum number of times will not be allowed that time away from school.
I will be starting intramurals at lunch hours once cross country training is complete and hope to do after school activities out of SFX starting in October. Much of this will be dependant on my hockey schedule. Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come see me. Hope to see you soon.

April Activities

Dear Students, Parents, Guardians,

Mother Nature is finally cooperating and will soon allow us to do a number of activities outside. I am currently busy with badminton with a number of grades and am very impressed how their skills have developed.
My after school badminton which takes place on Mondays and Thursdays will end Monday, April 28th and that will bring to an end the after school activities for this year.
I am also finishing up my lunch hour intramurals for the year. The grades 1,2,and 3 are now playing soccer baseball while the grades 4, 5, and 6 are close to finishing their floor hockey intramurals. My lunch hours will now be busy preparing students for the upcoming Manitoba Marathon super run. This is a 2.6 mile run which takes place on Fathers Day as part of the Manitoba Marathon. Students may wish to train and be part of the Marathon or they may just wish to train to stay in shape or better their conditioning. This is open to students from grades 3 to 6 and will take place at noon on days 1, 3, and 5. This is an excellent way to get hooked on a lifetime sport.
I will be starting track and field soon and preparing the students from grades 4, 5, and 6 for our upcoming track meet at Elie on Thursday, May 22nd which will also involve students from Elm Creek and St. Eustache. All students will be required to enter and participate in 2 running events and 2 field events and more information will follow about this later.
Hope you have been able to get outside and enjoy the start of our Manitoba Spring. Keep active and enjoy.

March Activities

Dear Parents, Students, and Guardians,

Well hopefully winter is coming to a quick end. I think many of us have experienced a lot of cabin fever over the last couple months. January and February were very busy with a number of activities taking place both at school and off the school site. March has a number of these activities coming to an end.
After school floor hockey which was taking place on Mondays and Thursdays will come to an end on March 17 th. Floor hockey intramurals for students in grades 1 through 6 are still on but should end either just before or after Spring Break.
The month of March brings with it the curling Brier in which our students in grades 4 , 5, and 6 were lucky enough to be selected to attend on the 10th of the month. Students in grades 6 also participated in a learn to curl program at the end of February.
Hopefully everyone has a relaxing Spring Break and has a chance to recharge the batteries over that time off.

February P.E. Activities

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
February is going to be a busy month with a number of activities taking place both on and off site.On Tuesday, February 5th the grades 5 and 6 students from St. Eustache and St. Francois will be getting together for a floor hockey tournament that morning. Sometime over the month of February the grade 6 will participate in a learn to curl program put on by curling Manitoba. On February 21st students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be going to Fort Whyte Nature Centre and get active in a winter carnival day which will involve snowshoeing. toboganning, and many other activities.
All students from grades 1 to 6 who signed up are currently involved in floor hockey intramurals. The grades 4, 5, and 6 are also participating in basketball intramurals during lunch recess on the days I am not here.
After school basketball will come to an end on Monday, February 4th and will be replaced by floor hockey starting Monday, February 11th. I am anticipating a high number of students staying back for this activity and will likely have to split the 2 days. Mondays will be for students in grades 5 and 6 who wish to stay after school and play while grade 3 and 4 students can stay on Thursdays. Both days will run from 3:30 to 4:45.
Should you have any question about the P.E. program or any of the extra-curricular activities, please do not hesitate to give me a call.
Sincerely,
R. Piche
