The students were very active over the last few months doing everything from skating to Fort Whyte Nature Centre to after school activities, etc. As we head into our final term I am preparing to start Manitoba Marathon super run training on April 18th. This is open to students from grades 3 to 6 to train them for the 2.6 mile super run at the marathon on Fathers Day. Should students wish to train and not run in the marathon that is fine also. This is a great opportunity for students to get in great physical condition. Should any parents wish to participate you are more than welcome to. Training will take place on days1, 3, and 5 of the school cycle at 11:45. There will be no training on Thursdays as those are swimming days. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I am currently setting up a track and field meet for the students in grades 4, 5, and 6 on Friday, May 27th at St. Pauls in Elie. The rain date would be the following Friday. This would also involve the students from St. Eustache and hopefully Starbuck School also. The final activity would be for students in grades 5 and 6 which would be a tennis baseball tournament at St. Eustache. A date fot this has not yet been set but it has generally been late June. As always should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at 864-2868. Take care.

Winter 2010

Hi Folks,
Hard to believe but Christmas break is already here. Just dropping a line to let you know some of the things that will be coming up when we return in January. As for the previous last 2 months students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be able to participate in lunch hour intramurals on days 1, 3, and 5. I will also continue after school activities for this same age group starting Monday, January 10th. Similar to volleyball, all activities will take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:30. All of January and part of February will be basketball and the remainder of February and March will be floor hockey.
I am also planning some out of school activities. The entire school will have the opportunity to go skating in St. Eustache at least 2 days next term and will also be going to Fort Whyte Nature Centre in early March. There will be more information to follow as this approaches.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and take time to enjoy the season. It is good to be back and am just dropping a line to give you some information on upcoming activities and dates. As in the past I will start off with cross-country running for any students from grades 4, 5, and 6 who are interested. Training will take place on days 1, 3, and 5 at 11:45 before the students eat. Runners will be training for 1 or 2 meets over the course of the season. If students would like to train and not do the meets that is fine also.
Our annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Friday, September 24th at 1 pm. Parents are more than welcome to join us for this event. Once again we will be asking for loonies and toonies towards fighting this disease.
Following cross-country running students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be able to participate in lunch hour intramurals. These intramurals will take place from mid October until Spring Break and will encompass everything from volleyball, basketball, handball, floor hockey, etc. All intramurals will take place on days 1, 3, and 5 from 12:10 to 12:45.
Finally I will be continuing on with our after school activities this year. Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be able to develop their skills in volleyball, basketball, and floor hockey. All sessions will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:30. Students will need permission forms from parents for each day they are staying and all students must be picked up at 4:30. Our first volleyball session will be Monday, October 6th.
Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Spring 2010

Hi Folks,
Mother Nature gave us a fairly decent winter and appears to be starting Spring in the same manner. Term 2 was extremely busy with a number of activities happening both on and off site. Judging by the reaction of the students all were enjoyed.
Our final term is not nearly as busy as our after school activities have come to an end and our intramurals are winding down except for grade 6 badminton. Following the grade 6 badminton tournament, students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 will be able to participate in Manitoba Marathon training. Training will take place on days 1, 3, and 5 at 11:45. All runners will be training for the 2.6 mile super run which will be held on Fathers Day at the University of Manitoba. Our tentative training start date is Tuesday, April 27th. This is a great opportunity to improve their fitness levels, cardiovascular endurance, and obtain a love of running. It is also a wonderful way to cross train for any other sports they participate in. Parents are always welcome to join.
As for the past 3 years I am looking at running a track and field meet for students in grades 4, 5, and 6. Our students will be competing against students from other schools in various running and field events. I have tentatively set this for Friday, May 28th at the high school in Elie. Finally I am hoping to have a baseball tournament with our grade 5/6 students and the students from St. Eustache. This would happen sometime in June. Students from both schools would be mixed into teams and would compete against the other teams rather than the schools.
I would like to thank those parents, alumni, etc. who helped with various activities throughout the year both on site and off site. Please feel free to stop in and see me should you have any questions or call me at 864-2868 during school hours. Stay active and enjoy life.

R. Students have been able to stay active during recesses with the weather being so cooperative. Our after school volleyball was a huge success with anywhere from 41 to 25 kids from grades 4, 5, and 6 participating. Lunch hour volleyball intramurals were also a huge success with over 80 per cent of the grade 4, 5, 6 student population participating.
Upon return from Christmas break we will begin after school basketball on Wed. Jan. 6th and this will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:30. I will run 8 basketball sessions followed by 8 floor hockey sessions. Once again this is open to students in grades 4, 5, and 6. Our final after school activity day will be Wed. Mar. 10th. We are starting Danish Handball intramurals during lunch hours starting Monday, Nov. 30th. These will run until Dec. 10th and stop as a result of Christmas activities and will resume when we get back from break. All intramurals are from 12:10 to 12:40 on days 1, 3, and 5.
A number of other activities are upcoming next term such as the grade 6 learn to curl program [ date to be announced ], winter Olympic day in February for all students, and Fort Whyte Nature Centre on Monday, Feb. 8th for students in grades 4, 5, and 6.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with friends and family and should you have any questions in regards to the PE program please do not hesitate to call me at 864-2868.

Fall 09

Hi Folks,
After a rainy, cool summer we are finally back at school. I hope everyone enjoyed the last 2 weeks of sun and heat and had a safe summer. Just to fill you in on some upcoming activities in the next couple months.
I will be starting cross-country running with students from grades 4 to 6 on Thursday, September 17th. Training will take place on days 1, 3, and 5 for any students from these grades who are interested. Students will be training for provincials and hopefully 1 other meet which will take place in October. Students will be required to make a certain number of training sessions in order to participate in these meets.
October will also be the start of after school volleyball which I hope will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45. This is also open to students from grades 4 to 6 who will be required to bring a note from home to stay for this activity and must be picked up right at 4:45. There will be no volleyball on early dismissal days. My hope is to get in 9 or 10 sessions which would take us to the middle of November. The focus with this activity is skill development for about 45 minutes and games for about 30.
Should you have any questions in regards to the extra-curricular activities or the PE program in general please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. We were kept active with a number of winter activities from curling to winter survival day at Fort Whyte to skating. Spring will also be busy as training will soon begin for Manitoba Marathon. This is open to students from grades 3 to 6 and will run on days 1, 3, and 5 at 11:45. This training will prepare students for the 2.6 mile super run on Fathers Day at the University of Manitoba.
As in the past 2 years I will be running a grade 4, 5, and 6 track and field meet out of St. Pauls in Elie on Friday, May 22nd. This will involve students from St. Francois Xavier, St. Eustache, Elm Creek, and possibly St. Laurent. All students will participate in a minimum 2 running events and 2 field events.
In early June I will be running a baseball tournament out of St. Eustache involving students from grades 5 and 6 from both schools. Students from both schools will be combined into a number of teams and will play a number of games of tennis baseball.
As in the past I am always looking for help for all these activities. If any parents can help at the track meet please contact me at the school. If any parents are interested in training with the students for the Manitoba Marathon they are more than welcome to join us on the days we run. Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call me or see me directly at the school.
R. Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 have spent a great deal of time developing their volleyball skills. Many students have chosen to put them to use by participating in lunch hour intramurals. I have also been amazed by the response for students staying for after school volleyball as virtually everytime we do this we have about 25 kids staying. With 4 sessions left I hope this continues. Our last volleyball session will be on the 24th of this month and I will begin with after school basketball in the new year.
Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 also participated in a archery clinic put on by the archery association. I love watching students participate in activties such as these because many students gain a huge amount of self confidence by attempting an activity such as this that they may not otherwise had. Lifetime activities such as these are great opportunities for students to get hooked and pursue this activity throughout their school years and beyond.
Should you have any questions or concerns please give me a call at 864-2868. Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 have been training hard over the lunch hours for the provincial cross country championships to be held in Winnipeg on October 16th. Students must have completed 7 out of a possible 10 training sessions in order to participate.
We are currently in the middle of our volleyball unit with students in grades 4, 5, and 6 and will be hosting a tournament for students in grades 5 and 6 from St. Eustache and SFX on Wednesday, October 22nd. This tournament will take on the same format as mini volleyball.
Lunch hour intramurals for students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will begin as soon as I am finished cross-country running. Any students from these grades who are interested can sign up the week of October 21st. Intramurals will begin with volleyball on days 1, 3, and 5 from 12:10 to 12:40.
After school activities will begin on Wednesday, October 15th with 10 volleyball sessions taking place over the months of October and November on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:45. A reminder to students and parents that students will need a note each and every time they stay. This is a great opportunity for students to develop their volleyball skills.
Should you have any questions about the upcoming programs do not hesitate to call me at the school at 864-2868.

R. Both July and August flew by and we are now back for another school year. I am looking forward to teaching my students from last year and also getting to know the many new faces around. I will be starting extracurricular activities the week of September 15th for both students in SFX and St. Eustache.
Last year a number of students from both schools ran in the provincial cross country championships in mid October. I will be training students again for this upcoming race. All training sessions will take place at 11:45 on the days I am at their respective schools. Students will need to run at least 9 times to qualify to run at Harbour View as this will be run on a school day during class time. Those who do not run the minimum number of times will not be allowed that time away from school.
I will be starting intramurals at lunch hours once cross country training is complete and hope to do after school activities out of SFX starting in October. Much of this will be dependant on my hockey schedule. Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to come see me. Hope to see you soon.

R. Manitoba Marathon training is well underway at lunch hours and involves students from grades 3 to 6. Our track and field meet took place on May 22nd and went very well involving students from SFX, Elm Creek, St. Eustache and St. Laurent schools. Thanks to all those parents who helped out.
Students in grades 5 and 6 will be participating in a tennis baseball tournament at St. Eustache on Wednesday, June 4th. Tabloid day for students in grades 1 to 5 will take place on Wednesday, June 18th. The Manitoba Marathon will happen on Sunday, June 15th and good luck to all those runners. This should bring an end to the activities for this school year. I am currently busy with badminton with a number of grades and am very impressed how their skills have developed.
My after school badminton which takes place on Mondays and Thursdays will end Monday, April 28th and that will bring to an end the after school activities for this year.
I am also finishing up my lunch hour intramurals for the year. The grades 1,2,and 3 are now playing soccer baseball while the grades 4, 5, and 6 are close to finishing their floor hockey intramurals. My lunch hours will now be busy preparing students for the upcoming Manitoba Marathon super run. This is a 2.6 mile run which takes place on Fathers Day as part of the Manitoba Marathon. Students may wish to train and be part of the Marathon or they may just wish to train to stay in shape or better their conditioning. This is open to students from grades 3 to 6 and will take place at noon on days 1, 3, and 5. This is an excellent way to get hooked on a lifetime sport.
I will be starting track and field soon and preparing the students from grades 4, 5, and 6 for our upcoming track meet at Elie on Thursday, May 22nd which will also involve students from Elm Creek and St. Eustache. All students will be required to enter and participate in 2 running events and 2 field events and more information will follow about this later.
Hope you have been able to get outside and enjoy the start of our Manitoba Spring. I think many of us have experienced a lot of cabin fever over the last couple months. January and February were very busy with a number of activities taking place both at school and off the school site. March has a number of these activities coming to an end.
After school floor hockey which was taking place on Mondays and Thursdays will come to an end on March 17 th. Floor hockey intramurals for students in grades 1 through 6 are still on but should end either just before or after Spring Break.
The month of March brings with it the curling Brier in which our students in grades 4 , 5, and 6 were lucky enough to be selected to attend on the 10th of the month. Students in grades 6 also participated in a learn to curl program at the end of February.
Hopefully everyone has a relaxing Spring Break and has a chance to recharge the batteries over that time off.

February P.E. Students from grades 1 to 3 are participating in indoor soccer intramurals on days 1 and 3 while students in grades 4 to 6 are participating in volleyball intramurals on days 3 and 5. It is nice to see that about 90 percent of the student population signed up for intramurals.
We are well into the cross-country running season and currently have over 20 students from grades 4,5,and 6 training for a provincial cross country meet on Thursday, October 18. Students need to run in at least 10 of the 15 training sessions in order to qualify for the run.
Our volleyball season is now underway and it was great to see 28 kids at the first 2 sessions. A reminder that practices take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 4:45. Students need a permission form every time they are going to stay. Forms can be obtained from the office or from myself.
Students in grades 5 and 6 are reminded to log their physical activity over the month of October using their I Love To Run charts. Parents are asked to support and encourage their children in following and pursuing healthy lifestyle practices.
Should parents have any quesstions regarding the physical education program I encourage you to phone or stop in and see me at the school.
